WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE VINEYARD

MAY After bud break in early April, the vines leafed out and we began to see bloom! Bloom is what looks like baby grapes, but are actually flower buds, called calyptra. Grape vines are self-pollinating, so each of these flower buds has the potential to turn into a single berry (grape).

JUNE   Bloom in May leads to flowering in June! When flowering begins, the buds produce clusters of flowers called inflorescences. These later become our grape clusters! This is another one of the most crucial points in the growing cycle, as temperature and sunlight have a major impact on these delicate flowers. Thankfully we had a warm, dry month!

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON…

It feels like the entire estate is in bloom, not just the vineyards! The lavender and purple sage up by the Bungalows are in full splendor. Down the vineyard vegetable & cutting gardens, we’re harvesting garlic; while tomatoes, strawberries, peppers and lettuces are almost ready. These gardens serve a dual purpose: providing fresh flowers & veggies to our AirBnB guests while attracting beneficial insects and pollinators to help maintain a healthy ecosystem for the vines!

EVENTS

We poured our gold medal-winning 2021 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon at the North Coast Food & Wine Festival in Santa Rosa, where only competition winners were invited to pour.

We also had the opportunity to provide samples of both our Cabernet and our Sauvignon Blanc in the VIP tent at the Taste of Sonoma. Both events showcased the best of Sonoma County’s wines and highlighted small producers like us!

FROM OUR HOUSE TO YOURS: Recipe of the Month

This month we are sharing Nancy’s Tarragon Cream Sauce over Grilled Salmon. A perfect summer dish where you can start utilizing those fresh herbs from your garden! This dish can be paired with our Sauvignon Blanc and its notes of refreshing citrus.

TARRAGON CREAM SAUCE

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 3/4 cup of fresh spinach leaves
  • 1 TB Fresh Tarragon
  • Fresh Chives to taste
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or emulsify with a stick blender. Do not over blend. Grill the salmon to your personal preference and spoon the sauce over the fish just before serving.
